From Caboose, head south on South Western Road. At the roundabout, turn left onto Harnham Road.

Through Harnham, take the signed cycle path into Harnham Water Meadows. Enjoy the views of Salisbury Cathedral across the water.

Follow the riverside path south through the water meadows. At Britford, pass the church of St Peter. The route stays close to the river.

Continue south on the lane through Bodenham and Nunton. The road is very quiet and flat — ideal for families.

Pass through Charlton All Saints, then follow the river south. Look out for herons, kingfishers and swans on the Avon.

Enter Downton village. The Bull Inn is on the right-hand side — perfect for lunch or a drink before the return ride.

Iconic view of Salisbury Cathedral reflected in the slow-moving Avon — one of the finest views in England.

St Peter's Church dates to Saxon times with remarkable Anglo-Saxon stonework inside. Well worth a look.
🍺 The Bull Inn, Downton
16th century pub serving great food and local ales. Bike parking outside. The ideal turnaround point.
🦅 Wildlife on the Avon
The Avon is one of England's finest chalk rivers. Look for kingfishers, otters, herons and trout.

Surface: Mostly tarmac lanes and surfaced cycle paths. Very flat — fully accessible for all abilities and kids bikes.

Best season: Spring–Autumn for wildflowers. Winter can see flooding of the water meadows paths — check conditions.
